10. 1/3/08 55 miles, Conditions sucked, lots of the inside lines were gravel, too many riders for the amount of snow that we had.
I raced the father son team of Mark and Coulton. Coulton was on an ’04 F7 and Dad was on an ’08 F 1000. Both sleds were “stock” but I’m sure each of these sleds has received lots of love and both guys are known for their speed. I raced The F7 first from 30mph, The crown of the road steered me towards the ditch and I had to let off and straighten her out before I could get on the gas again. 500 feet later I reeled him in and passed him. We raced back to the previous start point and I walked him. My apex was just too much for the 700 twin.
Mark and his F1000 were next. Off the start I went towards the ditch again and briefly had to let off. Mark had the skills to keep on the gas and once he got the jump I could only gain a bit on him. I lost 3 more of these 30mph roll-on starts. 0-4 against the big Cat. is not the way I wanted to be remembered so I suggested a standing start race. Coulton lined Dad and I up, I got the jump on Mark and he caught me 100 feet out and then I pulled him for the victory. We raced back but cut it short as we both were headed for the ditches. I have to get some riding skills because I was unable to hold it to the bar in any of the races. Bottom line, with a better rider I’m sure the F1000 would have gone down. I’m also sure Mark has more than a few tricks up his sleeve and I’ll be expecting he’ll be even more of a handful the next time we run them.
I saw 130 on the Dreameter but ran out of room, was pulling 11,000 rpms at full tilt and the Apex ran perfectly all night.
9. 1/2/08. 104 miles. (7.1 gallons for 14.6 mpg) Wow, throttle response is excellent, 10900+ rpms Loss of traction. I don’t know if it was due to the power or the conditions or the shortened limiter strap but I couldn’t fully get on the throttle without spinning till much further out. Handling was much better in the high speed(60 mph) twisties. Saw 117 on the DM. Even after blowing a holeshot I could readily reel Brian and his 700 Polaris in. Whearas 2 weeks ago Brian gave me some serious trouble when we raced. I broke a big rule when it comes to hot rodding, I did 2 mods at the same time. I have no clue if the 23 tooth sprocket or the DynoJet boxes was the reason of the percieved performance boost. My ’06 GT had the gear but never seemed to have the power my ’07 now has. I’m starting to think that that the Power Programmer and Ignition module might be a bargain for $700.
8. 1/01/08 Corey had his brand-spanking new Yamaha Phazer out on my motocross track to spin a few lap. I think he may of totalled his sled when he came up short on a huge 70 foot uphill triple. See pice below. More pics can be seen on Track News. BTW, it's snowing!!
7. 12/21. 116 Miles. SB Elliot. Raced the RTX again, he smoked me out of the hole first race and took the win. (I was gaining on him hard at the end). Second race I beat him straight up. The PowerCommander came just in time for Christmas, I'll be putting it on soon. Sled is at Mountain Extreme getting the 23 tooth gear put in it. With the re-gearing and the fuel/spark mods, my'07 should be a real screamer. I'll keep you posted.
6. 12/18 SB Elliot. 130 miles. Once again perfect. Zim killed a deer with my sled, he bunny-hopped onto the back of it after missing 2 others at high speed. No sled damage other than a ripped sticker and D.O.A. deer. Be very wary of deer, they're still running, we saw lots of 'em. (Note....I just pulled the brake side plastic, the oil can has a dent in it and the plastic pushed into the brake bleeder causing the little tit you see in the photos). The Pol 700 (7 gal), XP 800R(6 gal) and my GT(4.75 gal) filled up with gas mid-ride. Lots of dragging, I reeled in and passed the RTX from the night before after I blew the holeshot (I think his gigantic old-lady windsheild is really slowing him down. In his defense, the next cold spell, I'll be putting my stock mid-height sheild). The 700 Poo shocked me more than once and the unstudded 800R was slow out of the hole but dead even with my GT once moving. I'm only pulling 10,600 rpms, hopefully the Power Commander and the Ignition Module will give me enough power to hit 10,800+rpms.
5. 12/17 SB Elliot state park was perfect! 112 miles, ran out of gas 1.5 miles from truck, let sit for 2 min - sled started and limped back to trailer. Met some buddies after they hit a deer on a new RTX, his sled wouldn't start but Kevin saves the day. The RTX blew the 20a fuse in the box/panel next to reverse liknage. He was thankful to not be stranded, I "your welcomed" him by spanking him in a quick drag. Filled tank with 9.1 gal. 12.3 mpg.
4. 12/16/07. Rode at the farm 10 miles. Luke had his XP 800R and it was fast, just like my Apex. Limited space and snow kept us from opening them up and testing top speed. Click here for my 800R review.
3. 12/8/07. Big Christmas party at Zims house, lots of smack talking. Everyone has the fastest sled, Brian's '06 Polaris 700, Kate's '08 Polaris Dragon 600, Luke's '08 Ski Doo REV XP800 R, Dee's '06 Polaris 900 with Nitrous and my Apex all had the bragging rights at the party. We'll see, as soon as we all get together and run them. Keep an eye on CampKevin.com to see who's talkin' smack and who's talking jack.
2. 12/6/07. 45 min ride at farm. 25+ holeshots. Sounds very good, need more snow.
1. 12/5/07. First ride! 4+ inches snow. 1.7 miles in back fields, running like a top, light track ratcheting
